OCCUPATION. Videoarbeiten aus dem Kunstfonds

The Kunstfonds holds many contemporary video works which have entered the collection as promotional purchases by the Cultural Foundation of the Free State of Saxony. A selection of these exciting and highly diverse holdings is now on display – in some cases for the first time – in the Motorenhalle.

There are currently 52 video and film works in the collection of the Kunstfonds. The momentum that has been generated in these media, particularly since the late 2000s, is also evident in the new acquisitions: the majority of the video works in the Kunstfonds have been purchased since that time. The early period of video and film art is not reflected in the collection, but the focus on new media art at the Hochschule für Grafik und Buchkunst/Academy of Fine Arts in Leipzig is clear to see. Most of the artists represented in the video art collection of the Kunstfonds studied at that institution, and a number of them have been awarded important international prizes.
