New Acquisitions of Contemporary Art in the Kunstfonds 2016

Purchases by the Kulturstiftung (Culture Foundation) of the Free State of Saxony

Since 1992, the Free State of Saxony has carried out annual purchases of contemporary art associated with Saxony. The purchase recommendations are made by an independent advisory board, which consists of art experts and artists. In this way, the Free State of Saxony continuously promotes and encourages works in the region like no other Federal state in Germany. Since 2005, the purchases have been realised via the Kulturstiftung (culture foundation) of the Free State of Saxony.

Since 2011, the Kunstfonds has regularly introduced a selection of the latest recent acquisitions in the state representation of the free state at the Federal Government in Berlin. The works shown reflect Saxon art and the art funding programme. They are each highly topical and offer a very specific and ambitious content against the background of the broader cultural scene in Berlin. For the artists represented, this presentation is also a bit of a stepping stone.
