New Acquisitions of Contemporary Art in the Kunstfonds 2014. Purchases of the Cultural Foundation of the Free State of Saxony

Already in 1992, the Free State of Saxony started to annually acquire contemporary art works that bear reference to the state. They can be regarded as a sign of encouragement and also of recognition to the artistic creation. Like no other state, Saxony has been annually supporting artists living and working in the Free State. An independent committee consisting of art experts and artists recommends the acquisitions. This affirmative action has now been realised with the help of the Cultural Foundation of the Free State of Saxony.

  • Exhibition Site Berlin
  • DATES 12/11/2014—10/04/2015

The art works have always been designed to become property of the collection of the Kunstfonds of the Staatliche Kunstsammlungen Dresden where until today more than 850 contemporary art works of all genres have been compiled. In 2014, the Cultural Foundation of the Free State of Saxony was able to provide once again 164,000 euros for the purchase of contemporary art. Using this fund, a total of 32 works by 24 different artists could be acquired. For the most part, the art works were only created in this or the past two years.
Emphasis is given on media works, films, video as well as multimedia spatial and sound installations. Painting, drawing, photography and sculptures are also represented.
